Two major landmarks can be see here: surrounding Kazanskaya Square is Kazan Cathedral or Kazanskiy Kafedralniy Sobor (Каза́нский кафедра́льный собо́р), an Orthodox Church often called Cathedral of Our Lady of Kazan. Resembling a palatial hall, its interior displays many columns, statues and icons, and its enormous bronze doors are a copy of the original doors of Florence Baptistery, in Italy. On the other side of the avenue is the Singer House (Дом компании «Зингер»), House of Books (Дом книги) or Bookhouse, built for the Singer Sewing Machine Company and turned into one of the largest bookstore (Dom Knigi) in the city, with Cafi© Singer on the 2nd floor. This Art Nouveau building displays a glass tower with a glass globe sculpture at the top.
